Hope Basic Training
Outline: Class # 3
William Gaultiere, Ph.D.
Executive Director of the New Hope Crisis Counseling Center
New Hope was started
in 1968 by Dr. Robert H. Schuller as the first church-sponsored
24-hour telephone counseling center in America. Dr. Schuller
and Arvella had just been through the heartache of having a friend
and church member suicide when no one was available to answer
her desperate phone call. In June of 1997 we extended New
Hope’s 24-hour suicide prevention ministry onto the Internet –
another first! Little did we know just much it was needed.
Whereas, less than 1% of our telephone calls include suicidal
feelings, between 5 and 10% of the people we chat with online
are suicidal! So you’ll want to pay extra close attention
as Dr. Bill teaches you how to respond to suicidal chatters.
