The Crystal Cathedral was founded by Rev. Dr. Robert H. Schuller in 1955. The Garden Grove Community Church, as it was then known, initially held services in the Orange Drive-In Theatre. Today, services are held in the all glass, star-shaped Crystal Cathedral and are televised around the world on the Hour of Power. From the beginning the church has followed Dr. Schuller's motto: Find a need and fill it, find a hurt and heal it. The New Hope Crisis Counseling Center is an important expression of this motto and the following mission statement:

This ministry is a center and community for spiritual growth, where positive attitudes are developed, where good people become better, where hurts are healed, where lessons are learned, where friendships are developed, where marriages are strengthened, where families are bonded, where singles are valued, where the restless find peace, where love is alive, where God is understood, where Jesus Christ is Lord.

In that spirit, the purpose of the Crystal Cathedral Ministries is to proclaim the gospel of Jesus Christ throughout the world as commissioned by Christ, our Lord (Mark 16:15). Every person who participates in this ministry — pastor, congregant, employee, or volunteer — is committed earnestly, wholeheartedly and spiritually to this mission.
